Patiala Peg

about us

The Patiala peg, a measure of whisky, is determined by the space between the top of the index finger and the base of the little finger when held parallel against a standard glass bottle. Its name hails from the opulent history of Patiala, a city once renowned for its royal extravagance and towering Sikh soldiers.

Various theories surround the origin of this measure, all centered on Maharaja Sir Bhupinder Singh, who ruled Patiala from 1900 until his passing in 1938. Maharaja Bhupinder, an enigmatic figure who ascended the throne at the tender age of nine, was known for his refined tastes. He boasted a harem of 365 women, owned over 10 Rolls-Royce cars, and possessed the famous Patiala Necklace, adorned with 2930 diamonds, including the world’s seventh largest, the De Beers. The Maharaja epitomized a life lived to the fullest.
